Protect-a-clear

I would just like to say that this product is absolutely amazing. It is so easy to apply and the results are spot on. I use it on items that we gold plate. I recommend not using any Acetone to clean items as this causes issues that I quickly worked out. I tend to use smaller pieces of the lint free cloths also purchased and if lacquering larger items I use a few small pieces and have outstanding results. I just use the prep 1-4 mix and let dry and then straight on with the lacquer. I've never needed to use anything else at all to prep anything. This is on newly plated items that are not touched other than with nitrile gloves on.

Hello!

I am using Protectaclear on mild steel and copper parts. The first time I used it I good a good result. Since then the finish has not come out right. Please see attached pictures below , these taken after about 18 hours drying.

I have attempted to coat these particular parts twice now, and both times I have had a similar result. I had to spend nearly a day removing the finish with Acetone after the first failed attempt and now on the second attempt I have the same poor result! All parts are cleaned carefully with acetone and allowed to fully dry before coating. Indoor environment at around 15C, and I am using brand new lint free cloths each time. Application by wiping on and pot well shaken before use. It goes on fine initially and looks to be self levelling OK as expected, but then seems t…

Hi Song,

Much better this time, no problems and happy with the finish! Thank you!

Can I ask what you recommend for cleaning the finished surface?

Thanks!

Alex

Hi There! ProtectaClear is perfectly suited to your situation, but we would recommend PC279 instead. This product is designed to withstand environmental and chemical corrosion in coastal areas. We recommend neutralising and preparing the stainless steel surface with Cr24 Stainless Steel Deep Cleaner before applying ProtectaClear or PC279. If your stainless steel surface has developed rust, you can use ERW-XL rust remover to remove it. For routine maintenance, please avoid abrasive pads or harsh chemicals to maintain the finish and coating integrity. Hope this helps :)

Advice please

Hello!

I am looking to protect and seal mild steel with a brushed finish. Should I use ProtectaClear or the Stainless Steel protector fluid (PC 279)?

Which is the best cleaner to use?

Thanks!

Alex

Jewellery kit

Im interested in the large jewellery Kit because we are trying to make copper bracelats and im loosing the gloss in the copper after some time(when wearing). So i would like to ask if the Kit will help to keep that gloss and for how long? And if It needs to be reapplied And if yes after what time?

Hi Viliam, thank you for your interest in the jewellery Kit! Yes, our jewellery kit is specifically designed to protect jewellery from oxidation and discolouration, significantly extending the longevity of its lustrous shine. This is particularly effective against natural oxidation caused by skin contact, moisture, and exposure to air during wear, offering far superior protection compared to untreated copper jewellery. Under normal wear conditions, the protective effect typically lasts for several years, depending on factors such as frequency of wear, skin composition, exposure to sweat/water/lotions, and maintenance practices. Numerous users report that on frequently worn pieces, this protective layer maintains a like-new polished finish for over two years before beginning to wear off. You may reapply as needed; simply apply directly after cleaning, just as you did for the initial application.

New Balcony with aluminium needs protection

Just had a new glass balcony installed. We live on the coast so plenty of salt and wind about. The bottom retaining track is made of Aluminium with the surface a silver coloured anodised finish. We would like to protect this metal to maintain the metals appearance and reduce the need to clean to remove 'spots' in the future. Any ideas?

Hi Joanna! For your anodised aluminium balcony track in a coastal environment, we recommend ProtectaClear. This clear, durable coating is specifically formulated to protect metals from salt air, corrosion, oxidation, and spotting in high-salt conditions. It creates a thin, nearly invisible barrier that repels salt deposits and moisture, significantly minimising spotting and reducing the need for spot removal or frequent cleaning compared to an uncoated surface.

The coating greatly reduces salt adhesion, so routine spot removal should be minimal. When you think it need be clean, please avoid abrasive pads or harsh chemicals to maintain the anodised finish and coating integrity. Hope this helps :)

Cleaning brushes after coating

So I just bought a new bottle of Protactaclear and used the new cloth to apply it to some jewellery.

But how do you clean the cloth or a brush after?

Soap and water did not work, just left the cloth all stiff and sticky.

Good morning, Nana. Thank you for your question. For the brush, we recommend cleaning it with cellulose thinners. For the cloth, we recommend using the white cloth supplied with the product and disposing of it after use.
